Updating a Will for Greatest Impact

Updating a Will for Greatest Impact

Curt and Myra Stutzman called Denver, Colorado their home for the first 45 years of their married life. It was where they met, raised their family, and developed the values they want to carry on.

In 2004, while attending Belleview Acres MB Church in Littleton, they first met with a representative from MB Foundation regarding their estate planning. They had a simple will at the time but knew their estate was getting a little more complicated since they owned a family business. "We found it amazing that MB Foundation would invest so much time and interest in helping people with their financial goals," said Myra.

Their financial goals were impacted by a cancer diagnosis for Curt and then a cancer diagnosis for Myra eight years later. They began to think more seriously about their future and how to use their estate to impact God's Kingdom.

Curt and Myra had also talked about relocating to a rural setting for many years. With a son and his family living in Wichita, Kansas they decided moving nearby to rural Goddard was a good fit and in 2008, they made the move.

Realizing their trust documents needed to be updated since they had relocated to a different state, they contacted MB Foundation in 2016. The Stutzmans admit the process of updating their plan seemed difficult even though they had been through the initial process years before.

"MB Foundation was more than willing to help us with our trust, but thinking this was going to be an overwhelming task, we did nothing for the next four years," said Curt.

Then in 2020, anticipating a change in their circumstances with Curt's upcoming retirement, they contacted MB Foundation again to review their plan. "Working with the planned giving advisor was wonderful. They walked beside us through the needed steps to update our trust. Without their encouragement and help, our plan would not be up to date," said Myra.

Reviewing their plan with the planned giving advisor helped the Stutzmans better understand what they wanted to do. Their plan was updated and now they are confident their plan is current, caring for those who come behind them and supporting the causes that are important in their lives.
